An engineer at a telecommunication service provider has stood trial at a Sharjah court for allegedly stealing distinctive phone numbers. The Sharjah criminal court heard that the Arab man took advantage of his position at his firm to carry out the theft.
A top official at the company testified before the court that the defendant registered two distinctive numbers under his name within 10 months. "He used the username and password of a salesman to access the system and steal the numbers. He did this by taking advantage of his position at the company and friendship with the sales staff," the director of legal and administrative affairs at the firm told the court.
The official said that he received an internal communication document in which the defendant had reportedly confessed to stealing the numbers.
Another witness told the court that he was part of the internal investigation team and that the defendant had admitted to registering the numbers under his name.
The defendant denied using the username and password of another employee. He claimed he bought one number, while he bought the other on behalf of a colleague.
