The Dubai Public Prosecution has referred a chef to the criminal court for stabbing an employee at a restaurant following a heated argument. The chef reportedly got into a fight with the employee when the latter refused to offer him a drink he asked for. The chef is facing assault charges after stabbing the employee and causing him a permanent disability in his left arm.
Both the chef and the employee are also facing insult charges.
During the investigation, the complainant said the restaurant's manager had issued a directive to avoid offering food or drinks to employees unless a formal request was submitted.
When the defendant asked for a drink, the employee rejected his request.
"The chef refused to be treated like the rest of the workers in the restaurant, so he got furious and insulted the employee," said senior prosecutor Dr. Hussein Ali Al Naour, who investigated the case.
They then exchanged insults, before the chef stormed into the kitchen and grabbed a knife to stab the victim. The victim fell unconscious and was taken to the hospital.
Medical reports showed the complainant sustained a permanent disability in his left arm after the knife cut off some nerves and tendons. He has suffered a permanent loss of sensation in some of his fingers.
