A 45-year-old woman stood trial in a Dubai court for assaulting a police officer and verbally abusing him when she was drunk at a hotel.

The Moroccan housewife denied the charges in the Court of First Instance. A complaint was registered at Bur Dubai police station on October 12, 2017.

"I was on patrol duty at 4pm when I was informed about some trouble going on at a hotel. I heard there that a woman would not pay the bill for the alcoholic drinks she consumed but rather made a scene and caused disturbance. When I tried to talk her into paying the bill, she said her husband and son are locals and no one can do anything to her. She kept screaming and I told her to calm down, as I already knew she would often make trouble and had other previous cases. But she started to insult me," the police officer said.

"As I called for a woman cop, she pulled me by my uniform, damaging it."

The housewife also pushed a woman security officer and other staff at the hotel. She was running around in front of guests and throwing chairs and tables. She was taken in the police car to custody after she resisted being arrested.

The Egyptian hotel security manager, 42, said the defendant had been at the hotel since 8am that day. "She was walking around scantily dressed. At 9.30am I learned she ate at a restaurant but would not pay. When I told her to leave, she said she would stay to drink alcohol. At 3.30pm, she was still making trouble as she would not pay another bill for the alcoholic drinks she had. She said she did not fear the police and that she would get me deported."
