A "tall and well-built" man trespassed into a villa in Dubai, attacked its owner and locked himself up in a room on Sunday. He also threatened to attack policemen as they tried to arrest him. The police believe the suspect was under the influence of drugs when he barged into the villa in the Mankhool area on Sunday morning.
The villa owner informed the police about the trespass, following which three security patrols and paramedics were dispatched to the site.
Lieutenant Mohammed Al Shamsi and Sergeant Ahmed Al Suwaidi from the Rafaa Police Station rushed to the spot. Policemen at the site told the officers that when they asked the suspect for an ID, he threatened to attack them with an iron rod.
According to the police, the suspect behaved in an "abnormal" way, as if he was under the influence of drugs.
Brigadier Ahmed bin Ghalita, chairman of the board of directors of Dubai Police stations and director of Al Rafaa police station, said that a plan was put in place to control and arrest the suspect without harming him or any of the officers. He violently resisted as the policemen forced the door open, but he was brought under control and arrested.
When the police searched him, they recovered some drug pills from his shoes and a "white substance" believed to be a psychotropic drug.
According to the police, this was the only "strange" incident that took place during the Eid break.
As per the instructions of the Dubai Police chief, Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, all directors and officers of police stations across the emirate reported for duty during the Eid break.
