Three African nationals have been arrested for making a video of an African-American businessman driving his luxury car and showing his lavish lifestyle to defame him, while also accusing the trader of carrying out fraud operations. The trio put the video slyly on the social media.
The Al Raffa Police Station acted on the complaint filed by the businessman and nabbed the three for the illegal act.
The police investigation revealed that there were no international arrest warrants against the businessman and the three Africans who made the video had violated privacy of the trader, pointed out Brigadier Ahmed bin Ghalaita, director of Rafa police station.
It came to the fore that the three accused befriended the businessman and engaged him in friendly conversations. They made videos of his activities and also took photographs with him next to his luxury car.
When the businessman saw the video on social media, he was taken aback. The video claimed that the trader was leading an extravagant life by defrauding people, and urged the authorities to arrest him.
Ghalaita pointed out that the businessman came to the police station and lodged a complaint against the people who made the video.
The police teams swung into action and zeroed in on the whereabouts of the accused. The accused told the cops that they wanted to expose the businessman as he was involved in a number of scams. They made the video to alert the people about his activities, they said.
The police probed the case and found no proof against the businessman.
The three defendants were referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution on charges of defamation and violating the privacy of others.
Ghalaita said that the laws of the UAE criminalise such acts, and no one has the right to film or photograph another person without his consent, or to broadcast the images and videos without his knowledge and consent.
