A woman who was caught for posting indecent videos on various social media sites will be jailed for a year.

The Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi handed down the sentence to the Arab woman after she was found guilty of spreading video clips that violated public morals and promoted obscenity.

The judge also ordered the woman to pay a fine of Dh250,000 for violating online laws.

Official court documents reveal the cyber-crimes public prosecution in Abu Dhabi had in December last year ordered for the arrest of the woman after investigations suggested that she opened up various accounts on Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram to promote the immoral videos.

The Office of the UAE Attorney-General said after her arrest that it was monitoring the woman's online activities and that investigations had confirmed that she had violated online laws.

Investigations also revealed that the Arab woman had created a social media account in the name of "Damani", which she was using to spread indecent videos that were against public morality.

The woman will be deported after serving her jail sentence, according to the ruling.

Court also ordered that all her social media accounts be shut down and the electronic gadgets including computers which was using the spread the videos be seized.
