The defendant has been detained.

A man, who allegedly molested a maid at her sponsor's house, is standing trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance.

The 25-year-old Asian man was carrying out maintenance work in the bathroom of the house when he reportedly harassed the maid, public prosecution records show. No one else was home at the time of the incident, which happened in July and was reported at Al Barsha police station. The defendant has been detained.

The maid, a Filipina, told the investigator that the accused arrived at her sponsor's house around noon. "I was then looking after my employer's baby. He went to the bathroom while my employer left the house."

She added that the defendant then called her to check the repair work he did in the bathroom. "I got shocked when he suddenly touched me repeatedly. I stepped out and moved to the living room. A few minutes later, he came to me and told me that he was done. I told him to leave the house."

The maid's sponsor, an Arab, said she called her as soon as she received a text message telling her about the incident.

"I had just reached work when I learnt from her that she had told the worker to leave the house after he behaved indecently with her. He groped her several times as she checked his work in the bathroom. I called her and could tell from her trembling voice she was still shocked and scared. She could not complete her house duties on that day because she was not feeling well."

The sponsor then called the worker's company and later filed a complaint.

The trial will continue on August 27.
