A 25-year-old man has been charged with making criminal threats and blackmail at a Dubai court.
Prosecutors referred the Pakistani worker to the Dubai Court of First Instance with a plea he received a strict penalty - under the laws - as they accused him of threatening to dishonour an Ethiopian woman and blackmailing her with compromising photos.
A case was registered at Naif Police Station.
The complainant said the defendant kept threatening her from end of August to September 7 that he would circulate inappropriate photos he had taken of her unless she has sex with him at a hotel room. "I was unaware he took those photos. He made the threats during phone calls," she complained.
A police lieutenant told the prosecutor that they followed up on the woman's complaint after it was lodged. "She said that the accused's threats to post her indecent photos and videos on social media were made by phone. She claimed he wanted her to have sex with him at a hotel room. When interrogated, the accused said he had threatened to post a picture of him with the woman at a café if she did not give him back some cash and a necklace she had stolen from him."
The defendant's mobile phone was seized and examined by experts from the general directorate of criminal evidence and criminology for any relevant photos or video clips.
The worker admitted during the public prosecution investigation, he threatened to expose the complainant among her friends by circulating her photos which he snapped with his mobile phone without her knowledge. He alleged his motive was to push her to return the money she owed him.
The trial continues on November 20.
