The Arab woman in her 30s said at the personal affairs court that she requested her father to make marriage arrangements, but he rejected the proposal.

The complainant said she moved out of her house because of the disagreements she had with her father.

In court, the father said his daughter’s fiancé never sought her hand formally from him. “How could I respond to him when he never approached me? Besides, I don’t think he is fit to marry my daughter.”

The father claimed that the fiancé did not have the “financial and health abilities” to take care of his daughter.

Rabia Abdul Rahman, the lawyer representing the father, presented documents suggesting that multiple court cases had been filed against the fiancé.

As per UAE customs, a man has to personally present himself to the woman’s guardians and formally seek her hand, the lawyer argued, adding that the fiancé did not do this.

He requested the court to dismiss the case and to oblige the plaintiff to pay the legal expenses.
