The Fujairah Criminal Court of Appeal has acquitted a woman of charges of practicing witchcraft and sorcery against her sick husband, due to lack of evidence.
As per court records, the husband went into coma for over six months for no clear reason.
The man's son wanted to be appointed as the guardian of his wealth and be legally authorised to handle his father's financial issues.
When searching for documents needed to have the guardianship, he found a piece of paper with some ambiguous writings and drawings on it.
On getting the paper probed, he was told that the writings and drawings on it were a kind of sorcery and witchcraft.
The son lodged a complaint before the Fujairah Police, which arrested the woman.
The defendant denied the charges before the Fujairah public prosecution, and said she had nothing to do with the paper.
The woman was referred to the Fujairah Criminal Court of First Instance which found her guilty and ordered her to pay a fine of Dh10,000.
Dissatisfied with the ruling, the woman challenged the verdict before higher court.
The Fujairah Criminal Court of Appeal, quoting lack of evidence, dismissed the earlier judgment and cleared the woman of the charges of practicing witchcraft and sorcery against her husband.
