A woman has been cleared of insulting and threatening a relative over the phone in Ras Al Khaimah.
The RAK Misdemeanour Court found the defendant - a GCC national - not guilty of abusing the telecommunication services.
As per the prosecution statement, the woman had allegedly sworn at the complainant using abusive words over the phone. The woman denied the charges and her defence lawyer called the accusations "baseless and illogical".
The kin's lawyer requested the toughest punishment possible against the young girl, requesting the court to order a temporary compensation of Dh5,000, along with court charges and lawyer fees.
The court ruled out the kin's charges due to the lack of evidence. "Should there be any doubt, it is justified in favour of the accused," the court affirmed, before adding that the young girl did call her kin "but that was not enough evidence to prove that she insulted or threatened her".
The lawsuit documents only included statements of the plaintiff and her husband with no evidence of their claims, the court pointed out.
"The civil case is associated with the punitive case, and hence has to be rejected because of the acquittal ruling issued in favour of the defendant."
