Woman almost raped, as gang restrains fiancé in Dubai

Dubai - The trio were accused of setting up a plan to target people at night in Al Quoz.

A Nepali couple were stopped by three men who posed as cops before one of them tried to rape the woman while the others robbed them of cash, the Dubai Court of First Instance heard.
The Pakistani men allegedly robbed the woman of her mobile phone, an ID, and a bank card. They also took her fiance's visa copy. It was found that they used a cricket bat during the robbery.
The trio were accused of setting up a plan to target people at night in Al Quoz.
They reportedly teamed up to intimidate potential victims who happened to be passing by the area.
They were charged with robbery, impersonation of police officers, attempted rape, aiding and abetting in the attempted rape, and physical assault.
While one of them - a 30-year-old - tried to rape the woman after dragging her inside an abandoned car, the other two defendants, aged 31 and 26, restrained her companion.
The case was registered at Bur Dubai police station.
The woman, a 25-year-old cleaner, recounted that she had just walked out of a restaurant in Al Quoz industrial area with her fiancé when the incident happened.
"It was after midnight. Three men approached us. They pretended to be cops. One of them asked for our IDs. He then gagged and dragged me by force inside a car."
She told the prosecutor that the man would have almost raped her had it not been for her fiancé who managed to free himself from the other two suspects. As her fiancé came to her rescue, she left the car and screamed for help from passers-by. Her fiancé, a 27-year-old lifeguard, corroborated her statement during the investigation.
