Two employees at the exchange were injured as they resisted the robbers.
Four of the suspects - all of whom are in their 20s - were armed with knives and hammers. As they stood trial at the Sharjah court, they were charged with robbery. Four defendants admitted to the charge, while the fifth denied it.
According to court records, one of the employees who was injured in the attack alerted the police through an alarm system. Another employee called the police operations room.
The Sharjah Police had coordinated with forces from Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman to nab the suspects from four emirates within 48 hours after the robbery was committed.
