With 30% of their inventory damaged, owners of Preloved Books now face the daunting task of rebuilding from scratch
A woman has filed for divorce before a Fujairah court, after her husband suffered a heart attack that left him partially paralysed.
The Asian woman sought ‘Khula’ — a form of divorce where the wife pays back whatever her husband gave her or she waives off maintenance rights.
Justifying her request for Khula, the wife told the Fujairah Shariah Court that everything was fine six months back. “We were a happy family until my husband suffered a heart attack, after which he was unable to move his right hand and leg.”
She added that her husband started getting irritable. “He also needed a lot of attention and care, which is something I cannot manage with our five children.
“I can no longer shoulder this big responsibility, particularly because my husband cannot resume his work as a taxi driver.”
The husband told the court that his wife was “frustrated” about his condition. “She no longer tolerates any of my words or deeds, and stopped taking care of me. I had to seek my siblings’ help for basic things like taking a shower.”
The husband added that he “good and kind” to his wife, and took care of the family’s needs. “I also taught her how to drive and bought her a car.”
The husband told the court that he is living on charity and assistance from others because he could no longer work as a taxi driver.
The man requested the court to advise his wife to change her mind, and drop the case. “It is very unfair and heartless of her to leave me in this condition.”
The court adjourned the case in a bid to end the family dispute in an amicable way.
