Abu Dhabi Police helped foil an international smuggle bid that took place last December.
Two men were arrested for attempting to smuggle 231kg of heroin between two Asian countries.
The smugglers had stashed the bags of drugs in a secret compartment in a fishing boat.
Abu Dhabi police had relayed information regarding the smugglers to the targeted country, who was able to track down and capture the persons involved as well as confiscate the contraband materials in December 2018.
The owner of the drug shipment was among the two who were arrested.
An official from the embassy of the target country expressed his gratitude for the efforts of Abu Dhabi Police and their role in stopping the smuggling bid.
Major General Maktoum Ali Al Sharifi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Police, said: "Our efforts in combatting such toxic substances extend beyond our borders, to the regional and international levels. Those who promote and smuggle such substances need to be stopped, in order to protect our societies from its ill-effects."
Colonel Taher Ghareeb Al-Dhahiri, Director of the Directorate of Drug Control in the Criminal Security Sector, added that the information was relayed to the targeted country after all details were confirmed regarding the shipment and its contents.
