An Asian worker, who was convicted of attempted murder after he allegedly beat up his colleague, appealed against his three-year jail sentence.
Official court documents stated that the defendant had a fight with his colleague near their accommodation camp located on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi city.
Prosecutors said the man bludgeoned his friend with a wooden stick and also kicked him hard. The victim was taken to a hospital in a very bad state but his condition improved after treatment.
The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance had sentenced the Asian man to three years in jail followed by deportation after he was found guilty of attempting to murder his colleague.
He challenged the ruling in the Appeals Court denying the charge and contending that he was wrongly convicted.
The man told the judge that he had neither attacked nor tried to kill the victim.
The trial was adjourned until next week.
