According to court documents, the victim, who was in his 20s, was driving a car that collided with another vehicle, causing his immediate death.

The traffic court found the driver of the second vehicle guilty of causing the accident due to negligence. He was punished accordingly.

The victim’s parents, who are in their 60s, then filed a lawsuit against the driver and the insurance firm that covered his car demanding Dh513,000 in compensation for moral and material damages they suffered as a result of the loss of their son. The parents said that they were aging and their unmarried son was taking care of them.

The Abu Dhabi Civil Court of First Instance had earlier ordered the driver and the insurance firm to jointly pay the parents Dh20,000 in damages.

The parents challenged the ruling, stressing that the amount was so small. After hearing the case, the appeals court increased the compensation to Dh150,000.

The defendants were also told to pay the legal expenses incurred by the couple.
