The Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court has sentenced two Asian young men to two years in jail after being found guilty of robbing a cell phone and Dh40.

The court, presided over by Chief Judge Sameh Shaker, also ordered the deportation of the two robbers after serving the jail term in full.

As per court records, the case unfolded when the duo stopped a worker while walking along his labour camp at the Jazira Al Hamra area, Ras Al Khaimah.

They first asked the worker to give them a light, but to his surprise, they toughly pushed him to the ground and robbed his cell phone and his wallet which contained Dh40.

The duo tried to escape the scene on their bicycle, but the victim held on to it tightly.

He caught one of the robbers who fell to the ground, while the other was caught by his fellow workers who responded to his call for help.

The RAK Police, alerted of the theft, immediately rushed to the scene and arrested the two robbers.

The two defendants were referred to the RAK public prosecution which charged them with assault and forced robbery.

The suspects admitted to their robbery before the RAK Criminal Court, adding that they were hoping to rob a bigger amount of money.

The court convicted the two robbers and gave them the jail term.
