Three Asian men stood trial in the Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court for assaulting a mentally challenged compatriot. The trio beat up the victim, in his thirties, and pushed him out of a restaurant on the RAK beach with the intention to abduct him, the indictment sheet said.
The court records indicated that the three accused and the victim were sitting in an eatery at the beach. They had a heated argument there, following which the trio thrashed him outside the restaurant. The victim sustained several injuries in his face due to the assault.
The father of the special needs man lodged a complaint before the RAK Police, which arrested the trio and referred them to the public prosecution. The three were charged with assault and abduction.
The father dropped the suit against the third defendant before the court session. "The owner of the nearby shop (the third accused) close to my house has nothing to do with the assault," he told the court. The father then pardoned all the suspects, and asked the court to drop the case and charges. "I don't want to destroy their future and see them being sent to jail," he told the court.
The defence lawyer asked the court to drop the abduction and assault charges against his clients, particularly as the father had taken back the case.
The court, presided over by Chief Judge Sameh Shaker, accepted the father's verbal waiver, and ordered it to be documented in a legal manner.
