Traveller jailed in Dubai, fined Dh50,000 for smuggling heroin
Dubai - Also ordered his deportation at the end of his jail term.
The man was arrested on August 11 at the Dubai International Airport when the customs inspectors found a quantity of drugs stashed in his baggage.
A report from the general directorate of criminal evidence and criminology showed that the quantity seized from the accused was heroin and weighed more than 1.5kg.
The court ordered that the drugs be confiscated.
The verdict has been appealed by both the defendant and the public prosecution.
