Three Asian men have stood trial at the Fujairah Misdemeanour Court on charges of siphoning off Dh61,000 belonging to an Emirati.
Court records show that two of the accused allegedly stole the passport of the third defendant and used it in misleading an exchange house and siphoning off Dh61,000.
The plaintiff alerted the police when he found the money stolen through the exchange house.
The Fujairah Police launched investigations and arrested the trio. They were referred to the public prosecution.
The three suspects then appeared at the Fujairah Misdemeanour Court where one of the defendants told the court that he did give his passport to the other two men involved in the case.
"But, I did not know that they would use it in a crime," he said.
He added that he agreed to give them his passport because they told him they were going to renew his residence visa.
"I came to know about the crime only when I was arrested."
The court ordered adjournment of the case to complete the hearing sessions.
