A vendor working at a shop has been accused of sexual assault at the Dubai Court of First Instance after he allegedly installed a camera inside a toilet at the outlet.
He was reported to Naif police station on March 9 by a female colleague, who spotted the camera that was fixed on a mop stick.
The 33-year-old Asian man allegedly put the camera there to secretly film his colleague while she used the facility.
The complainant, a 27-year-old Filipina vendor, said she was on the job at 7:00pm on March 8 when she went to the toilet.
"I wanted to clean up shortly later and as I took the mop, a small camera fell off the stick. It has a memory card. I kept it and showed it to my colleague, who told me it is a camera."
During the public prosecution investigation, she recalled how she took the camera home and ran the memory card on her laptop. "It showed the defendant getting inside the washroom on the same day and fixing the camera on the mop stick on video mode. He entered shortly before I did."
She complained against him the next day at the Naif police station.
According to the forensics report, the memory card that was then seized by the police and later used by the prosecution investigator was found to contain 17 video recordings inside a toilet.
In one of the recordings, a suspect is seen fixing the camera before a woman got inside to use the facility.
The accused admitted the charge during the police interrogation and the public prosecution investigation.
A ruling will be issued on August 12.
