A passenger stood trial at Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court for allegedly assaulting a cabbie following an argument, driving away with his taxi and robbing the money kept in it.
As per court records, the passenger - the defendant - beat up the driver of the taxi he was travelling in from Ras Al Khaimah to a nearby emirate after an exchange of words. The cabbie reportedly didn't take a route which the passenger wanted him to.
After he was assaulted, the driver got off the taxi to lodge a complaint against him, while leaving the vehicle with all the money he had earned that day. To his surprise, the passenger drove away with his taxi to another emirate and stole all the cash.
The taxi driver told the RAK Police, the public prosecution and the criminal court that he refused to take a particular route as it was unsafe. "The passenger then assaulted me. He drove away with my taxi and robbed all the money I had collected that day."
The CID launched investigation and managed to identify the defendant based on the driver's statements and descriptions
He was referred to the RAK public prosecution and the RAK Criminal Court which approved the defence lawyer's request and ordered adjournment of the case to a later time this month.
