A young man was killed after a high-speed chase with police led to gunshots and a deadly collision in Al Ain.
The incident took place at around 5 am on Monday, when Abu Dhabi police patrols noticed the man was speeding and driving in a reckless manner.
After signalling him to stop, the man ignored police instructions and made a run for it. Police patrols chased and fired two warning shots in the air as he continued to flee.
Instead of heeding to the police warning, the man took out his own weapon and fired back at the patrol vehicles.
He rammed his car into one of the police cars, which caused his car to overturn. The man sustained serious injuries in the collision, and he was taken to the hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit.
He succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning.
The Abu Dhabi General Command expressed its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.
They urged the public to heed police instructions as their role is to protect the public from all dangerous stunts and reckless acts.
Police warned against such behaviour which is commonly practiced by youngsters, and they requested all educators and community leaders help to spread awareness in this segment of society.
Parents especially should take the lead in educating their children about the dangers of reckless driving. Values of safety and security for all should be paramount.
