An expat family has accused their neighbour of hitting their 12-year-old daughter on the head and yelling at her when the girl was allegedly attending a birthday party in the residential compound where the family lives.
An Abu Dhabi Court heard that the Arab man had filed a complaint against his neighbour's wife, also an Arab, after the child told them that she assaulted her.
Court records stated that the girl was playing with other children at the birthday party in the compound near the neighbour's home when a quarrel broke out between her and the neighbour's child.
As the neighbour's wife intervened to stop the quarrel, she allegedly hit the child on the head and also shouted at her.
"My child came to the house and told me and my wife that the neighbour's wife hit her on hard on the head and also yelled at her telling her to leave the games area," the child's father told court.
"I and my wife went out to investigate the matter after noticing hit marks on the child's head. We took the child to the hospital and then went to police and filed a complaint after a medical report confirmed that she was assaulted."
The man added that one month after filing a complaint against his neighbour's wife, he was surprised that they had also filed a complaint against him and his wife claiming they abused and insulted them too when they came out to find out about what had happened to their child.
Prosecutors charged the woman of assaulting her neighbour's child and shouting at her.
The woman denied the charge stressing she did nothing to the child. She instead insisted that the couple are the ones that abused and insulted her and her husband.
Three eye witnesses that were present at the birthday party told court that woman had intervened when the children were involved in a quarrel. They said she stopped the quarrel but denied seeing her attacking her neighbour's child.
The witnesses said they were surprised when the man and his wife later came at the party very angry and exchanged words with the woman accusing her of attacking their daughter.
The father, however, refuted the witnesses' claims saying that they were great friends to their neighbours. Court also heard that the neighbours had previous differences before the assaulting incident occurred.
The trial was adjourned to a future date.
