A 28-year-old Emirati man is standing trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance on threat and insult charges after his football conversation with a compatriot turned sour.
The Court of First Instance heard that a heated chat between the two men on Snapchat about the UAE football tournament ended on a sour note after one of them verbally abused and threatened the other.

The incident took place on November 28 of last year and was reported to Al Rashidiya police station.
The complainant, a 28-year-old Emirati, said he was threatened and insulted via Snapchat by the defendant while he was in Dubai at 6pm on November 28 last year. "He sent me a message that read: 'I will kill you if I see you'."
The complainant told the prosecutor that in other messages, the accused verbally abused and disrespected him and his parents. "It happened following a discussion about football matches. He suddenly began to insult and threaten me."
The victim produced a copy of their conversation with the abusive content. That conversation was enclosed to the case file by the prosecutors as evidence.
The trial has been postponed to May 15.
