A 29-year-old man has gone on trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance after he blackmailed a 14-year-old boy and tried to coerce him into sex.
According to Dubai public prosecution, the Emirati man, a jobless, threatened the boy, also an Emirati, that he would assault him and tell his parents about his smoking habit unless he lets him have sex with him.
He has been placed in detention.
The incident was reported on January 25 this year at Al Qusais police station.
During investigation, the boy recounted how he was with his brother at Oud Al Muteena Park when the defendant approached them. ''He initiated a conversation, asking me about my name and school. When I told him that I used to smoke, he began to threaten me that he would tell my parents about it. As I begged him not to report me, he asked me for sex."
The boy told his brother later to leave. "The accused then took me to the security cabin and pretended to the guard that he was related to me. He then took me by taxi to Al Twar Park. There he could not find any restroom with no one around," the boy said.
Only after the victim promised the man that he would bring his female cousin for him, he let him go. Once the taxi dropped him at his place, he ran inside.
His mother took him right then to the Al Qusais police station where she lodged a complaint.
"The defendant came to my place the next day and waited for me to come back from school. He threatened me again and asked me why I gave him a wrong number. He said that I caused him trouble. The housemaid then came and took me inside," the boy told the prosecution investigator.
The park security guard said the defendant came to his cabin with the boy pretending he caught him smoking and that he wanted to get inside to advise him against that habit. "I did not let him in. I also denied them entry inside another cabin. The man was leading the boy. I went for a walk around and they were gone when I came back."
The defendant has a criminal record.
A ruling will be issued on March 31.
