A man, who strangled to death an African prostitute right after having sex with her at her place, was handed a life term by a Dubai court on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old Pakistani, an ironsmith, denied a murder charge at the Court of First Instance. He claimed he had no intention to kill the woman. However, the man admitted he had illicit consensual sex with her.
The court ordered that he be deported after serving 25 years in prison.
During investigation, the man claimed he was provoked after the victim stole Dh150 from his wallet while he was in the toilet.
According to Dubai public prosecution records, the defendant had a dispute with the woman after she stole Dh150 from his wallet. He grabbed her by the neck from behind and kept strangling her until she fell down motionless.
The incident took place on March 23, last year, in Al Muraqqabat.
A police lieutenant said they had to break open the door of victim's flat after receiving a complaint about foul smell coming out from her place in Al Baraha. "Around 5pm, the Dubai police operations room received a complaint by the building watchman. We heard from the Indian watchman that neighbours had been complaining about bad smell emanating from the flat. Even after the hallway was cleaned more than once, the smell worsened. So he called the police after none opened the door for him."
The officer added: "We found the decomposed body lying on its side near the bathroom sink. The flat key and her mobile phones were missing so we suspected foul play."
Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) came to know the accused had sold one of the victim's mobile phones at a shop.
The police traced the defendant down to his place in Al Ain after checking the last phone calls the victim had prior to her murder. He confessed he killed the African woman.
The man told the investigators he had come to Meydan Bani Yas and contacted the victim with whom he had sex before. He had an agreement with her to have sex with her twice for Dh150. However, later after he got out of the bathroom, he found that he lost another Dh150. She would not give him his money back but asked him to leave the flat or she would call the police, he claimed. He followed her to the bathroom where he stood behind her and strangled her.
He stole Dh450 and two mobile phones from her closet, locked the flat and kept the key and slept the night over at a park near a bus stop.
He took a bus back to Al Ain.
According to the forensic report, the death happened after the victim's neck was pressed very hard.
The convict has the right to appeal the ruling within 15 days.
