Man threatens to blow up mother's Dubai villa, steals from sister's safe

Dubai - The man also damaged two cars by smashing their glass with a stick.

A 32-year-old man stood trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance charged with threatening to blow up his Emirati mother's villa.
Prosecutors accused that the Omani man on April 21 this year held a gas cylinder and threatened to blow up his mother's house if she called the police on him.
The man also damaged two cars by smashing their glass with a stick and stole Dh23,000 from the safe in his sister's bedroom.
He faced charges of blackmail and making criminal threats, theft with the use of sharp weapon and damage of property.
A complaint was lodged at Al Rashidiya police station.
The defendant's Emirati mother, a housewife, said that her son arrived home around noon on April 21. "He brought his friend with him. When I asked his friend to leave, my son became angry. He smashed the front glass of our two cars, one of them belongs to my daughter."
The housewife recalled to the investigator how her son then held a gas cylinder, threatening to blow up the place.
"I left with the family members. When I returned the following morning, I found the external gate and the villa door opened. The bedroom of my daughter was in a mess and the safe was broke opened. An amount of Dh23,000 was missing," she recounted.
The mother called the police who apprehended the defendant and recovered the money from him.
During the public prosecution investigation, the son, who has been detained, admitted that he stole Dh23,000 from his sister after breaking the safe with a hammer. He confessed he damaged the family's two cars and that he threatened to torch the house.
He will be sentenced on June 27.
