Man storms into villa to kidnap cousin in Dubai
The defendant was drunk when he threatened to stab the victim's father-in-law and his family if they made a move.
A 29-year-old man is standing trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance for allegedly kidnapping his cousin at knifepoint.
The court heard that on June 22, the Emirati man intruded into his relatives' villa, broke the lock of the woman's room and forced her inside his car after threatening to harm her. He was drunk when he threatened to stab the victim's father-in-law and his family if they made a move.
He is now facing charges of kidnap using a knife, issuing threats, damaging private property, trespassing into others' property and consuming of alcohol without a permit. The incident was reported at Al Qusais police station. The accused is detained.
The 31-year-old housewife said she heard screams in the house before the defendant broke into her room. "It was around 4.15pm when he came inside, asking me where the man was hiding. My in-laws had already taken my children away to another room."
She later learned from the accused that he heard from her sister-in-law that she was letting a man inside her room. "The defendant did not sexually harass me but I woke up finding him sitting in front of me."
The complainant's 40-year-old sister-in-law said the incident happened after 3pm. "The defendant stormed into the house with a knife. He threatened to stab my father when he tried to stop him from taking her. The accused then broke into her room and pulled her outside into his car by force."
The witness told the investigator that the man kidnapped her brother's wife and entered her father's villa without the latter's consent.
The trial will resume on November 15.
