They left him with an eye injury.

A 29-year-old worker stood trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance on the charge of forcefully robbing a Pakistani man of cash and his mobile phone.

The Dubai public prosecution accused the Pakistani defendant of assaulting, together with runaway accomplices, the victim and causing him an eye injury before robbing him of Dh3,500 and his phone worth Dh1,000, on July 27.

The incident was reported at Al Muraqqabat police station.

The accused has been detained.

A police sergeant said that they received a complaint from a Pakistani man. "He recounted how he was assaulted by two compatriots behind a restaurant in Al Muteena in Al Muraqqabat around 11pm after he refused to have sex with them. He was left with an eye injury and they stole Dh3,500 from his wallet and his mobile phone."

The complainant led the police to the crime scene but no surveillance cameras were found there.

"Based on the descriptions he gave, an informant tipped us off about the whereabouts of one of the suspects. We arrested him around 8.30pm on October 6," the sergeant told the prosecutor.

A forensic report and a medical report showed that the complainant was left with a bruise around his eye.

The complainant's mobile phone was found with the defendant.

The latter will be sentenced on November 17.
