Man, off-duty cop fight over woman on Dubai road

Dubai - A forensic report showed that the victim was left with a nose deformity.

An Emirati man went on trial at a Dubai court after he punched an off-duty police captain, knocking him off his bike and breaking his nose.
The Court of First Instance heard how the 26-year-old (inspector), who was driving his car when the incident took place on December 30, 2017, was irritated by the victim's alleged staring at a female companion. The victim was on his bike.
The defendant stepped off his car at a traffic light and punched the biker, knocking him off.
He denied in court charges of physical assault that led to permanent injury and damage of private property.
A forensic report showed that the victim was left with a nose deformity in addition to breathing difficulties.
The victim, a 32-year-old police captain, who was off-duty on the day of the incident, said that he was riding his bike around 8:30pm on Al Safa road. "I stopped because of traffic before the signal. I had to look back to check on my friend who is a new biker."  
It was then that the accused parked next to him. "He lowered the window telling me 'come ride with us'. I told him I was just looking at my friend and I did not see who is in his car. I had to move ahead but he drove past me and repeated what he said earlier to ride with him," the victim told the prosecutor.
When the biker stopped at the traffic red light, he was suddenly rammed by the defendant's car.
"I was knocked off the bike. The accused then slapped me on my helmet breaking it. He punched me and I felt he broke my nose. I passed out and woke up at hospital," the victim recalled during the public prosecution investigation.
A Canadian woman, 28, said she was driving behind the two men when she witnessed the incident. "The accused kicked the victim's bike knocking him off.
He kept punching him even while he was under his bike trying in vain to get up."
The trial has been postponed to April 7.
