A 33-year-old worker, who molested a nine-year-old boy at a flamingoes reserve, was ordered jailed for six months by a Dubai court on Wednesday.
Public prosecution records show the incident happened on January 12 when the Bangladeshi man spotted the boy with his parents at Ras Al Khor reserve. He tricked the child into going with him to see the flamingoes so to be alone with him and then molested the boy.
The accused denied a molestation charge at the Court of First Instance.
He will be deported after ending his time in prison.
Prosecutors sought the most severe legal penalty possible against him as the man remains in detention.
During investigation, the boy, from South Africa, said that he was with his parents at the reserve. "That man came and told me to go with him to see the flamingoes."
The child recounted how the worker hugged him tightly from behind and inappropriately touched him.
He ran and told his father about it.
The father said he was with his family at the reserve. "I was filming the birds when the worker invited my son to go see them. However, my son came back about two minutes later. He looked shocked, could not speak for a while and then told me that the worker touched him in a bad way."
The father described the worker as being agitated and scared when he was confronted about the incident. "He claimed he touched my son's shoulder only. I called the police on him," the complainant told the prosecutor.
The father lodged a complaint at Al Rashidiya police station.
The ruling can be appealed.
