A man has been fined Dh3,000 for posting inappropriate photos of a woman on Snapchat and also sending her insulting messages.
The Criminal Court of First Instance in Al Ain handed down the sentence to the Arab man after he was found guilty of violating cyber law.
Court documents stated that the woman filed a complaint against the man, in his 20s, after she received inappropriate photos of her via Snapchat and a voice note in which the defendant abused and insulted her. In her complaint, the woman also included his Snapchat account number from which the nude photos and abusive messages derived.
The woman said she was humiliated and undermined by the man's acts and requested authorities to punish him according to the law.
After investigations, prosecutors charged the Arab man with insulting the woman and violating cyber laws. In court, the youth denied the charges against him. He said he had no relationship with the woman and that he didn't even know her.
Prosecutors presented to court the victim's photos, which the young man had reportedly posted on Snapchat. The photos were also shown to the defendant but he insisted that he had no idea about the photos and that he didn't know why the woman made false accusations against him.
