Three workers have stood trial in Dubai for reportedly trying to kill a man over a parking slot. The trio, between the age of 30 and 40, allegedly stabbed him and hit him with a rock and fire extinguisher, the emirate's Court of First Instance heard.

The complainant, a 37-year-old Asian, said he was with his brother at a paid car park in Al Nakheel area when a verbal brawl over a parking space ensued.

"It was around 11.30pm. The three defendants then came and, all of a sudden, began assaulting me. They hit me with a concrete rock on the head and then with a fire extinguisher. They kept assaulting me even after I was knocked out. I felt a sharp tool being stabbed in my chest while one of them sat on me."

He said he was stabbed and hit repeatedly.

A police sergeant said he was on patrol duty when he was alerted to the incident. "I found a group of people at the scene. It was clear they had been fighting. The defendants admitted to the assault charge, claiming it was over a parking spot."

The sergeant described the victim as 'badly injured' when he was taken by ambulance. At that time, the sharp tool was still in his abdomen.

Even after he was discharged from the hospital, the complainant couldn't breathe properly and walk normally.

A forensic report showed that the victim could have been killed because of the injuries he sustained. He had to be examined more than once before his health situation could be evaluated. He was found to have been inflicted a permanent damage to his left lung, making him suffer breathing problems.

The trial will resume on October 19.
