An Arab expat has gone on trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance after he allegedly threatened a woman and her parents over a period of three years.
The court heard how the 37-year-old man issued the death threats to the family in voice and written messages he would send on WhatsApp. He also threatened to shame them if the mother and her daughter blocked his numbers.
The accused is believed to have committed blasphemy in messages he had sent to the mother. He reportedly used abusive language and invaded the mother's privacy after circulating her photos among his friends.
The defendant has been placed in detention.
The incidents started from April 2017 and ran up until 2020. The father, an Arab, said the defendant issued threats to kill him and his wife and daughter if the two women continued to reject going out with him and his wife. "He had stolen my wife's pictures from my mobile phone and then shared them with his friends to defame her."
