A salesman has been charged at a Dubai court with attempted fraud after he allegedly tried to rent a car with fake documents.
The Court of First Instance heard how the 29-year-old Nigerian man tried to rent a car at an office in Al Muraqqabat on September 29, by impersonating a South African national and using forged documents.
According to public prosecution records, he faked government seals and used them on his passport and entry permit. He also forged several papers, including a South African passport, a South African driving licence and an e-entry permit.
The defendant's alleged fraud bid was foiled as the account manager at the car rental agency discovered that his papers were fake. "He wanted to rent a 2017- model car for one week. As per the regular procedure, he was told to present the necessary documents. However, as I was drafting the contract, I got suspicious about his papers," the account manager told the investigator.
