An elderly Asian man was arrested in Dubai after forging an Ejari document and passing it off as real to the Department of Economic Development.

According to Dubai Public Prosecution, the 67-year-old man visited the DED in March 2018 and provided them with the counterfeit contract to acquire a receipt to be used illegally.

A Dubai Land Department employee quickly spotted that the man had provided the contract for a unit that had already been rented by another company.

Investigations revealed that the accused had illegally written the contract and had forged the signature of the unit's owner, submitting it to the DLD to rent under the name of the company he worked for.

The prosecution has named a co-conspirator who helped forge the signatures. He is currently wanted by the authorities. They have referred the accused to criminal court for further proceedings.
