A motorist has been charged in court for allegedly assaulting an Arab woman over a parking dispute at a mall in Dubai. The altercation reportedly left the woman with a permanent hand injury.
Public prosecution records showed that in August 2018, the complainant inadvertently entered the wrong lane in the parking area and wanted drive back in the right direction.
However, when the defendant saw her, he allegedly started honking his car's horn repeatedly. And when the woman asked him to wait, the man reportedly hurled insults at her.
The woman then stepped out of her car and asked him why he insulted her. Suddenly, the man also got off his vehicle, pushed her, and proceeded to drive her car, the complainant claimed.
Scared that the man would crash her car, the woman decided to take note of his vehicle's number plate using her mobile phone.
But when the defendant caught her recording the number, he reportedly attacked her, pinned her to the ground, and assaulted her, ripping her clothes and causing an injury in her hand.
People gathered around them when the woman started screaming, the records showed. Two individuals tried to stop the defendant.
According to the forensic report, the complainant suffered a fracture in her hand, leading to three per cent permanent disfigurement.
She also claimed that she lost her job due to the injury.
The officer - who received the report of the incident and served as a witness in the case - said the mall's CCTV cameras showed the woman being beaten by the man.
The defendant was referred to the criminal court.
