The Dubai Police have arrested a young man over a viral video showing him "dancing indecently" at a local cafe. The police have also arrested the person who recorded and posted the video online.

The cafe where the dance was filmed was fined and ordered shut for failure to adhere to Covid-19 rules.

According to Brigadier Jamal Salem Al Jallaf, director of Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Dubai Police, the force took action against the young man when the "indecent video" went viral. The suspect was identified at the Criminal Data Analysis Centre.

The officer said Article 358 of the UAE Penal code states that whoever openly commits an indecent and disgraceful act shall be punished by detention for a period of at least six months.

Article 24 of the UAE's cybercrime law states that creating or running a website to publish any content, programmes or ideas which would violate public decency is punishable with temporary imprisonment and a fine of Dh500,000 to Dh1 million.
