As per the indictment sheet, the defendant agreed with the complainant to sell him 400 iPhones at a price of Dh1.2 million.

An Arab man has been charged at the Ras Al Khaimah Misdemeanour Court with duping another person of Dh500,000.

As per the indictment sheet, the defendant agreed with the complainant - a Gulf citizen - to sell him 400 iPhones at a price of Dh1.2 million.

He allegedly collected Dh500,000 without arranging the cell phones. The defendant denied the accusations and said that he did not collect any money from the complainant.

He added that he had reached an agreement with the plaintiff to sell him 400 iPhones through an intermediary company. "That supplier inked the sale contract with the plaintiff without involving me in the contract."

The complainant said he did not agree to give the money to the company as told by the defendant. "I paid Dh500,000 and went to collect 400 cell phones on time but I did not find the manager of the intermediary company whom I sealed the sale contract with."

When the complainant realised that he was conned, he went to the RAK Police to lodge a complaint, but was shocked to find the defendant also filing a complaint against the company. However, he filed a case against the defendant.

The court, honouring the defence lawyer's request, ordered adjournment of the case to next week to continue hearing sessions.
