Seven Gulf nationals - a couple and some of their family members - have stood trial at the Ras Al Khaimah Misdemeanour Court on charges of insult and assault.
Court records show that the case started when the man, together with his mother, sister and two brothers, allegedly stormed into the house of his wife.
Then, they reportedly assaulted the woman and her mother, who are also facing charges for 'insulting the man's family'.
When the case was referred to the court, an amicable settlement was offered. It was accepted by the husband's side, yet the woman's family insisted on pressing charges.
All of them denied the charges of assault and insult.
The husband's mother claimed that they had entered the house of her son's wife with consent. "She (wife) opened the door and asked us to come in."
One of the husband's brothers said offensive words had been said by his mother and his brother toward the woman. His sister also allegedly told her, "you do not deserve my brother".
A physical altercation ensued between the two families, with the husband's mother and sister allegedly hitting the wife, according to the brother's statement. He added that he stepped in to end the fight.
The man's sister denied the accusation, saying: "She (her brother's wife) ran up to me and beat me up. I was only defending myself without assaulting her."
She also insisted that her brother's wife insulted and assaulted her and her family.
The husband denied beating or insulting his wife.
The trial was adjourned until next week.
