An Emirati man and a stateless accomplice stood trial at a Dubai court on the charges of impersonating CID officers, kidnapping an Afghan worker.

The Court of First Instance heard that on February 3, the two men, aged 40 and 35 years, also robbed the victim of Dh850.

A 34-year-old Emirati woman, whose car was used in the kidnap, has been charged with aiding and abetting. The 26-year-old victim said he was walking in Bur Dubai when a 4WD car stopped near him.

"The man, who was driving, introduced himself as a CID officer and told me to step in. I sat in the back seat. He then told me that I was wanted and he would hand me over to the police station. He asked me to produce my ID and my belongings. I handed him over my Emirates ID and wallet, in which I kept Dh850, and two mobile phones."

After about 40 minutes, the driver and his accomplice stopped at a remote location and let the worker out after taking the money out of his wallet.

The victim identified the pair later at the police station. He told the police that the duo tricked him into believing they were on the phone with the police station while they held him up for 40 minutes in the car.

A policeman said the main Emirati accused admitted they posed as CID officers and told the victim to ride in the car to check whether he was wanted and that they released him after taking his cash.

The trial has been adjourned to June 30
