An Asian executive and an Arab employee have stood trial at the Ras Al Khaimah Misdemeanour Court for allegedly recording and sharing a woman's phone calls.
The first defendant admitted to recording the calls because he reportedly overheard the woman mentioning his name in a phone conversation.
"I did record the call but this was because she mentioned my name in Arabic while talking to an unidentified person on the phone," he said.
Then, he shared the recording with the second accused, asking her to translate it.
"I just wanted to know why she mentioned my name and what she was saying about me."
The second defendant also admitted to the charges but claimed she was only doing her job as part of a team. She said she knew nothing about how the calls were recorded.
"I could not even understand or translate the calls, so I forwarded it to a third person for translation," she said.
The lawyer of the first defendant told the court that his client did not have any intention to harm the complainant.
The woman withdrew the complaint shortly after lodging it, he added.
