A Dubai expat is standing trial at the Court of First Instance for allegedly trying to rape his flatmate.
The 23-year-old Asian, who worked as a salesman, reportedly sneaked into the woman's room while she was in the bathroom, public prosecution records show.
The complainant, a 22-year-old European on a visit visa, said: "It was around 11.30pm on May 19. He kept asking me to kiss him. I texted my boyfriend who lived in the same building while I told the defendant to leave. But he pushed me onto the bed."
When her boyfriend arrived, he found the accused naked. The defendant quickly stood up and denied having touched her. "Another friend also came. The accused denied it again, saying he only touched my shoulder. I was scared so I went to my boyfriend's place," she recounted.
The defendant was apprehended when she filed a complaint at Al Barsha police station.
The woman's boyfriend, a 27-year-old South African, confirmed that he received a message from her that night. "She was asking for help. I went to her place and I had to push her room's door open as the defendant was standing behind it to stop me from getting inside. He threatened to jump from the balcony if I called the police."
A video clip was submitted as evidence, showing the complainant's boyfriend and another witness asking the defendant why he went to the woman's room and lowered his trousers.
The defendant insisted that he did not do anything to her.
The trial has been adjourned to September 15.
