An unemployed man has been charged with sexual assault at the Dubai Court of First Instance.
Dubai public prosecution records show that the 40-year-old Pakistani man grabbed the woman's hands and made her touch him on March 3. He also lifted her shirt.
After a complaint was filed at Bur Dubai police station, the accused has been put in detention.
A police sergeant said that they received a report about a sexual assault incident at a shopping mall.
"I reached with a colleague at the scene. We found the woman and the accused both at the police office at the mall. A lieutenant told us that the incident took place inside the changing room of a clothing shop."
The sergeant told the prosecution investigator that the woman was called by the defendant and when she approached him, he suddenly made her touch him. He added that there are no surveillance cameras in that room.
During the police interrogation and prosecution investigation, the defendant admitted that he grabbed the woman's hands and put them on his waist.
During the investigation, the complainant said in her deposition that she was with her boyfriend at 2pm in the shop and that the accused claimed to her that he worked there.
"He called me twice. After this, he pulled me towards himself while begging me to get closer."
A ruling will be issued on July 15.
