An Arab national who worked at the Sharjah Municipality stood trial at a Sharjah court on charges of receiving a bribe of Dh20,000 for issuing permit from one of the government departments.
In the first hearing, the complainant said the accused demanded Dh20,000 bribe from him to issue permit for installing an electric transformer.
The defendant denied the charge at the court, saying that he had never seen the complainant and he had left his job at the municipality years ago.
The defence counsellor claimed that her client should be proclaimed innocent based on the inconsistency in the complainant's statements during the police investigation and the public prosecution investigation. "To the police, he claimed that he had paid Dh30,000 bribe to the accused, while to the public prosecution, he said the amount was Dh20,000."
The court has adjourned the case to March 3.
