A salesman was charged with theft at the Dubai Court of First Instance on Thursday for allegedly stealing Dh18,000 worth of jewellery from the enterprise where he worked.
According to the public prosecution records, the 27-year-old Indian salesman stole two gold necklaces from his workplace on June 22. A complaint was filed at Naif police station. He remains in detention.
A manager said that while he was at his jewellery enterprise at 11am on June 22, they noticed that some pieces were missing. "While carrying out the inventory of gold jewellery, we found a decrease in the weight of the gold jewels. We later discovered that two gold necklaces worth Dh18,000 were not there."
After checking the surveillance cameras, the administration staff spotted the defendant taking the two pieces. "When we confronted him, he admitted. After the police officers arrived, he confessed to them he stole the items and claimed he threw them to the sea," the manager told the public prosecution investigator.
