A young Arab man is standing trial at a Dubai court for allegedly stealing Dh470 from a grocery store.
The 24-year-old, who was unemployed at the time, went to the small store in Dubai’s Al Jafliya area and asked for a Dh30 mobile recharge card. Then, he told the attendant that he had a Dh500 bill, according to court records about the incident that happened in February last year.
When the worker came back with the card and the Dh470 change, the man quickly grabbed the money and the card, ran out of the store, and tried driving off, records show. The worker caught up with him and jumped on his car in an attempt to stop him.
The Arab man, however, reportedly beat him up until he fell on the road. The worker, who sustained injuries, returned to the shop and reported the incident to the police. Luckily, he remember the defendant’s number plate.
The Dubai Police managed to track him down and later arrested him. He was referred to court for legal action.
