An expat is facing charges at a Dubai court for reportedly beating his wife and causing a fracture in her hand.
The woman, a 42-year-old European, claimed that her 34-year-old husband cursed at her, 'grabbed her hand and slammed it on the wall' in the middle of an argument, the Dubai Court of First Instance heard.
"It happened at our house. He also took my mobile phone and filmed me. I think he wanted to prove something against me," the complainant said during the public prosecution investigation.
As she told him repeatedly to stop filming, she walked towards her husband in a bid to take her phone. "But he was fast to grab my hand and slam it on the wall. It got swollen."
A medical report showed that the woman suffered a hand fracture on the day of the incident, which happened in November last year. Her hand had to be placed in a cast.
A forensic evaluation confirmed that apart from the bruises caused by the assault, the woman was left with a permanent hand injury.
A ruling will be issued on August 18.
